From Living on the Hill to Sold By Jori and an Education in Social Media Engagement & Branding

Welcome to my new blog site, chock full of information about real estate and Lafayette Hill life.  I have been working very hard to have a better understanding of branding and sharing information with people in our digital world. I've learned I have a ton of content and information to share but definitely am still learning, what's the point?

I am taking 2021 to really educate myself about digital marketing and engagement. A highlight of the past year really has been finding new ways to "talk" to people when face to face may not be possible. I have worked hard at building an on-line community as a part of the marketing of Sold By Jori and really need to tie everything together. That is the reason for this blog!

Introduction

We moved to Lafayette Hill in 2009, six weeks after the birth of our second child. I knew about Lafayette Hill from when we would come up as children and visit family friends on Birch Drive. As a teen, I fondly remember one of these trips to Birch Dr. and the Plymouth Meeting Mall (sans parents) as a pit stop on the way to the Mann Music Center to see The Steve Miller Band in concert. Once we saw our house for the first time, I knew Lafayette Hill would be our home!

I was not a REALTOR when we first moved to the Hill. Neither of us were born in Pennsylvania so our family still had a lot to learn about our Commonwealth and community. The year that I got licensed was also the year I found my passion for community volunteering and fund raising. I have now been traveling these parallel roads for almost 7 years! Sold By Jori has grown and over the years I have helped over 75 families buy or sell homes. I am also the co-president of the Colonial School District Education Foundation (CSDEF) and am proud to say have helped grow the Foundation to be the organization to fund raise the most for Colonial School District.

Living on the Hill

My first foray into social engagement was the creation of the Facebook Page Living on the Hill (Living on The Hill - Lafayette Hill | Facebook). Great in theory, but not in execution. The page still exists but is typically only now used to share content from other pages. I love the catchy name and do plan to share more community information and links. The birth of this page was to help me learn more about and share information about Lafayette Hill and the surrounding community. Please visit the page from the above link and like the page!

JMBroadREALTOR

Got my first domain, JMBroadREALTOR when I was at my first brokerage. Had a "stock" website with no creative or personalized content. It lived in the ether and I never spent any time there myself! Created Facebook business page and personalized my LinkedIn and Twitter with this lame branding. Fast forward to 2018 and I have now affiliated with Coldwell Banker Preferred in Blue Bell. This is where the I first realized a change would be needed after meeting with our marketing guru. Within the first 5 minutes, and JMBroadREALTOR was dead and buried. I mentioned that #soldbyJori was my go-to catchphrase and hashtag and I even had a wooden settlement sign made saying just this. I have a unique name. Sold By Jori is pretty catchy. Add a logo with a house and key graphic, and the new brand was born!

Sold By Jori

It was very easy to replace my old branding with the new. Things were starting to make sense. My real estate business was growing. My logo helped tie it all together. I had content shared on all platforms. I was showing my value as an agent and community expert. And then.....COVID-19.

How was I going to sell houses during a pandemic. In March 2020, agents had no idea when we were going to be able to get back to work. I may have been Living on the Hill but I was afraid it would turn into Living in HELL very quickly. How could I stay relevant if I couldn't even do my job? What was I going to do all day? 2020 was full of pivots and learning there is a way to do things even if it was not how you expected it to be!

Please come back for part 2 of this inaugural blog post to learn how 2020 changed the face of Real Estate and my business branding!

Thanks for reading!
